Jokes apart - I-485 is the actual step of converting someone to a real Permanent Resident.
You don't have to worry about your Skill sets , loads of paperwork - you can do everything that an American can do apart from Voting. Its not a administrative processing step like I-140.
If on a higher level the politicians feel that economy is bad , umeployment is rocketing up they would do nothing to speed up 485 , rather slow it down... They don't want an extra immigrant to stand in the line for Food stamp or unemployment benefits.
Makes sense ?

In my case PD is current since years the I140 is approved. Backbround check etc is over. Confirmed by various sources that my case JUST needs to be picked up by IO.
I have somebusiness trips coming up. My employer want me to find out the way to get the GC faster that way there wont be any hassle for every year renewal od AP and also EADs. and then appplying VISAs which will expire along with teh AP last date.
Along with me my employer is also fed up now:p.

Technically you will be considered a Bachelors in US + 3 yrs Experience = Masters Equivallent = EB2.
You should be a safe - EB2.

Notify the change of address - If USCIS finds out that you have moved and did not notify with in 10 days of your move then they have the power to revoke and deny your petition.

Updating USCIS using form AR-11 within 11 days is required by law. Can be done online, allows the option to update pending cases with a different mailing address such as PO Box that is different from the home address. AR-11 requires the actual physical home address.
In any event, should call USCIS to confirm change of address on pending applications.

You better get your 140 applied ASAP and hope that you get your approval before March 2007. Then you can apply for H1 for 3 years. I was in a similar boat and I got my 140 about 1.5 months before my H1 was expiring (8th year). I then used Premium Processing and got H1 in 4 days.
It will be tough call if you can get a 1 year renewal...check with your lawyers

it sounds like PD is a MUST for approval but for actual processing order , as in backlog queue, it seems purely by luck :(

I guess one option is "follow-to-join". Go back to home country and apply for follow to join.
But you should not miss that period when your PD becomes current. It usually takes one whole month for PD being current so I don't see a reason why they cannot file in time.

I had the same issue. Still awaiting my AP which was applied in Nov 2008.
When I called up TSC where my application was filed, they kept insisting that they have really mailed it and they cannot issue it again unless they receive the AP saying it is undelivered.
I am sure my address is correct as per their records. I got my EAD delivered at the same address without any issue.
Finally I called them again, this time I talked to a more knowledgeable accommodating IO.
Keep calling the service center till you get an instruction similar to the following.
This is the instruction provided
----------------------------------------------------------
Fill out I-131 Application or use the copy of your original application
attach two photos
Mention the receipt no on the top of the form
Also mention REPLACEMENT : no Fees included
Add a covering letter explaining the situation
Post it to the following address
USCIS Texas Service Center
ADDRESS ( This is a special address, This not the standard USCIS address)
On Lower Left corner of the envelope mention:
do Not open in the mail room, No fees are attached
------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes. PERM is taking close to 7 months if not stuck in Audit. My case was filed on 10/12/2009.
My employer saw that the status of my case changed to Certified in the following website
yesterday. So approximately it is taking b/w 7 to 8 months which is good news.

I am in the same boat. I received " Card Order� notification today for my case..but wife's case is still pending. I think there is a trend.

Since you have applied change of status, you are on pending H1B and not out of status. But if your H1B is approved before your L1B expires and has effective date of 1st October, you will be out of status for those 15 days.
I don't think it will matter as you are allowed to come in US 10 days prior to Oct 1st if you are coming on fresh H1B, although you can work only from Oct 1st.
So even if you don't file an extension it will be fine, although your last working days with L1B company will be Sept 15th.

It's a free country and everyone, including Lou Dobbs have a right to voice their opinion - boycotts will not serve any purpose.
If you feel so passionately about it, here's what I suggest. Create a blog/website and every single day after his program, post an article pointing out factual inaccuracies in Lou's reports and views. If you don't want to watch the program, then CNN publishes a transcript a couple of hours later - follow that.
It's hard work but believe me - do it consistently and do it well and you will see that it will work.
Best of luck and post the address of your site/blog here should you decide to do it.

Don't think you can do anything about PIMS its a hit or miss. i got my visa renewed 7th year in Feb a few weeks before DS 160 came in to play. It was fairly smooth infact I felt they were much more organized this time then in the past years. If I recall my appointment was for 9:15 am I reached outside the consulate at 9.00am. They had us and the groups that I can't recall the term but indian co's that had groups of their peeps attending visa interviews in separate lines. Have your passport, original 797 and fee receipt together while waiting and from then on the usual. I have never seen or used the Strips Lounge but then I am a local too so comfort level with that. well the status quo isn't that bad, is it? Gradually, retrogression will reduce. Now that there is no labor sub, there will be roughly a FIFO system. Plus, no increase in H1B should help the future --- as far as retorgression is concerned. another big plus is that current H1B system is intact. This bill would have driven thousands out of H1B status.
